Nora Geist: Fine Scenes

Aesthetical photography is my passion. People—places—things: you are the spotlight!

Saintly Cadavers (adult content accessible only to those over the age of 18. For access go to ‘Contact’ with valid proof of age to be given a password. If you are under 18 or if this material offends you, do not enter.)

‘A Blessed Sacrilege’ (1995): “The erection and the sun scandalise, in the same way as the cadaver and the darkness of cellars”. I drew inspiration from Georges Bataille’s surrealistic novella ‘The Story of the Eye’ and his equally bizarre poem ‘The Solar Anus’ in creating a photographic narrative of the celebration of an unholy communion. I shot the original content in black & white film and then colourised each photo to give the models florid and waxy complexions. The models’ carnivalesque appearance grotesquely parodies the spectacle of the 'incorruptible' corpses of saints openly displayed in reliquaries in various churches, cathedrals and basilicas. I used a Konica AUTOREFLEX T4 35mm Film SLR Manual for the entire layout. *Click on each thumbnail to view the larger picture with details as well as numerous outtakes.
