‘A Blessed Sacrilege’ (1995): I drew inspiration from Georges Bataille’s surrealistic novella ‘The Story of the Eye’ and his equally bizarre poem ‘The Solar Anus’ in creating this photographic narrative of a most unholy communion. I shot the original content in black & white film and then coloured each photo to give the models florid and lustrous complexions. The colouring adds a febrile vitality to the models’ facial expressions and poses and also enhances the provocative theme of the work as a whole. The models’ skin recalls the grotesque wax-like appearance of the fragrant corpses of saints displayed in reliquaries of churches, cathedrals and basilicas. I used a Konica AUTOREFLEX T4 35mm Film SLR Manual for the entire layout. *Click on each thumbnail to view the larger picture with details as well as numerous outtakes.
