“A Blessed Sacrilege“ (1996). Bataille’s “Story of the Eye” is the springboard for this narrative tableau depicting the Countess and the Abbess receiving an unconventional and most unholy communion. I shot the original layout in black & white film and then added colour to give the models’ skin a creepy florid and waxy appearance reminiscent of the 'incorruptible' bodies of saints displayed in glass cases (reliquaries) in various Roman Catholic churches, cathedrals and basilicas. I used a Konica AUTOREFLEX T4 35mm Film SLR Manual to shoot the entire layout in one sitting.
