‘Controlled environments’ (2006–present): Digital photography. Plants and animals offer the fantasy of the unbarred subject—but it is the cat, above all, that fascinates. Not because it lacks inhibition or anxiety, but because it performs a kind of sovereign indifference, refusing entry into the field of the Other. The cat neither reflects nor deflects the gaze—it absorbs it without returning it.
