“Immediate Identities” (1992–present) is a series of film and digital portraits inspired by Felicity Buirski’s ballad Let There Be Light. Each image catches a subject mid-expression—an instant that seems to reveal interiority, yet remains a pose: a face as image, not confession. These portraits explore the gaze and misrecognition: the viewer feels they “know” a visage, but that recognition is fragile—more projection than mastery. To be held by a face is not only to look, but to feel looked at in return, as the portrait becomes mirror, lure, and silence. Shot across multiple formats, from Polaroid and 35mm to DSLR and phone.
